Omg

Why should you obtain an OMG™Certification?
• Help employers evaluate your potential as a new hire, analyze and evaluate job performance!
• Motivate yourself to enhance your skills and knowledge!
• Gain recognition of your competency and prove that they are committed to your profession!

OMG currently offers certifications in three areas:

OMG Certified UML® Professional™ (OCUP™)
OMG's worldwide UML® Certification Program provides an objective measure of your UML 2.x Specification knowledge-and tells the rest of the IT community that you have serious credentials. OCUP Certification will benefit you by giving you an important documentation to present to employers and clients. It also benefits companies looking for skilled UML practitioners like you, by giving them a basis for making hiring and promotion decisions. The UML Certification Program offers three levels of certification: OMG-Certified UML Professional Fundamental, Intermediate and Advanced. Each level has its own examination, testing progressively more complex concepts and usage of the UML 2.x Specification.

OMG Certified Real-time and Embedded Specialist™ (OCRES™)
OCRES is a rigorous, comprehensive, and fair test of a person's knowledge of OMG's specifications for distributed real-time and embedded computing. If you're using OMG's standards for real-time and embedded systems, here's your opportunity to show the world you know your stuff. There are three Exams in the OCRES Program: OCUP™ Fundamental, and OCRES Intermediate and Advanced. Because modeling skill is basic to software design and implementation, the fundamental level certification defined by the OMG Certified UML® Professional (OCUP) program is the prerequisite for both OCRES certification levels.

OMG Certified Expert in BPM™ (OCEB™)
BPM practitioner will benefit from the OCEB Certification by giving you an important, well-regarded credential to present to employers, clients and prospects. It proves that you not only know how to model and analyze business processes, but also are familiar with the many concepts and frameworks that underline Business Process Management. As the use of BPM grows by leaps and bounds, more and more organizations are looking for developers with BPM expertise. The BPM Certification Program offers five levels of certification on two tracks: Business and Technical. Recognizing that BPM practitioners on the Business Side and Technical Side of our industry use different sets of concepts and tools, the program splits into two tracks above the Fundamental level to define separate Intermediate and Advanced level certifications.

OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional™ - OCSMP™
The program awards the OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional certification at four levels. The first level, OCSMP Model User, covers a wide range of essential MBSE and SysML knowledge and skills and so enhances the résumé of those who contribute to a model-based systems engineering project. Building on this foundation, since all lower levels will be prerequisites for the levels above, are three levels targeted at model builders and advanced model users.

These levels, termed OCSMP Model Builder - Fundamental, Intermediate, and Advanced, cover advanced topics with an emphasis on the interconnectedness among the different model viewpoints that gives MBSE its advantage over conventional engineering methods.

The Fundamental Exam covers basic elements of Business Essentials and Business Modeling, Business Process, Business Process Management, Business Process Modeling, and essential and widely-used industry frameworks. Holders of the OCEB Fundamental Certification have demonstrated the knowledge and modeling skills to be productive members of a BPM project team on either the Business or Technical side of the aisle.

Books:

The BPM experts who mapped the coverage and wrote the questions for the OCEB examinations found that no single book covered the range of material that a well-rounded BPM practitioner needs to know. In our lists for the different examinations, you'll find the books that we used to write the questions, but we don't think it's necessary to study this exact set in order to do well on the exam. In the entry for each book, we've listed the topics we covered from it; if you have another book that covers the same topics, or can find an alternate source somewhere else (such as on the Web), we suggest you use it instead of investing in a book that nearly duplicates it.

OMG Certified UML Professional 2™ (OCUP 2™): Foundation

Coverage Map and References

The OCUP 2 Foundation Level examination starts with a brief section on Why We Model, surveying many of the domains that use software modeling, the reasons they model, and the benefits they derive. The major portion of the examination tests the candidate's knowledge and skill in interpreting and constructing UML Structural and Behavioral Models. Coverage is restricted to the three structural diagrams and four behavioral diagrams, and the UML model elements and attributes, listed in the Coverage Map on this page.

Holders of the OCUP 2 Foundation Level Certification have demonstrated the knowledge and modeling skills needed to interpret UML models presented to them in their role as implementer or stakeholder of a project, or to be productive members of a team that builds or uses UML models in its analysis and design of a system (either new or existing) under study.

The OCUP 2 Foundation Level exam and certification is available .

COVERAGE MAP - FOUNDATION LEVEL

Why We Model
Many domains construct or use models, including those listed on the entrance page to this certification program. This section surveys the types of models they use, and the benefits they obtain. 15%
Interpretation and Construction of UML Models and Diagrams:
Interpretation and construction of the UML Diagrams listed here, using the model elements listed below:

The Object Diagram 5%
The Package Diagram 5%
The Use Case Diagram 5%
The Activity Diagram 20%
The Sequence Diagram 15%
The State Machine Diagram 10%
Total 100%

LEVEL OF COVERAGE OF THE LISTED TOPICS:

Since this is the Foundation exam, you should assume that the exam will not test obscure or rarely-used details and so concentrate on the main use(s) of the elements listed below. If you are familiar enough with these elements to use them flexibly in your modeling, you probably know enough UML to pass the OCUP 2 Foundation exam although some modelers will not pass on their first attempt even with this level of preparation. Keep in mind that the OCUP 2 program, even at the Foundation level, is intended to certify practitioners whose level of UML knowledge and skill supports proficient model building and interpretation - for example, those whose performance level places them in the top half of their workgroup. Finally, do not neglect the material on "Why We Model" - This section counts as 15% of your score so a poor performance here may keep you from passing even if you do well on the UML modeling portion. The four papers referenced on the Coverage Map web page provide thoughtful analyses of the different ways our domain benefits from modeling - material that a proficient modeler should be familiar with, and be ready to discuss when the topic arises.

IMPORTANT: See this paragraph (below) about Study Guides.

How does this coverage compare to the original OCUP Fundamental exam? Although the list below appears to be much longer than the corresponding list for the first exam, almost 90% of the elements listed here were covered in the original OCUP Fundamental. (Material on OccurrenceSpecifications and the section on State Machines are new.) Its original coverage map posting referred to diagrams in the UML specification, allowing it to incorporate multiple elements using a single line on the page. This does not mean that the amount of material is comparable, however: The OCUP 2 exam's modeling-oriented point of view goes into more depth for each element, so you have much more to cover and must go beyond the specification definitions to study modeling and usage.

Coverage of UML includes these Elements:

OMG Certified Expert in BPM™ Overview

The OCEB™ program consists of five examinations, granting five Certifications.
Above the single Fundamental level, the program splits into two tracks - one Business-oriented , the other Technically oriented.

The Exams

Each level has its own examinations, testing progressively more advanced concepts and usage of BPM Specifications and Concepts.

FUNDAMENTAL A productive member ranked in the top half of his or her BPM project team should have the knowledge and skills to acquire this certification.
BUSINESS INTERMEDIATE A BPM Team Lead on the business side, discovering, modeling, and analyzing business processes, should have the knowledge and skills to acquire this certification.
TECHNICAL INTERMEDIATE A BPM implementation team lead, implementing and maintaining BPM systems, should have the knowledge and skills to acquire this certification.
BUSINESS ADVANCED A BPM consultant to high-level management, or practitioner responsible for BPM scope and direction at Director level in an enterprise, should have the broad knowledge and skills covered in this certification.
TECHNICAL ADVANCED A BPM consultant to high-level management working on the technical side, or BPM practitioner at Director level responsible for process performance and governance in an enterprise, should have the broad knowledge and skills covered in this certification.
For more detailed information on the exam, click here.

Recognizing that BPM practitioners on the Business Side and Technical Side of our industry use different sets of concepts and tools, the program splits into two tracks above the Fundamental level (as shown in the figure below) to define separate Intermediate and Advanced level certifications. Certification at each level requires certification at all levels below it in its track. Candidates may take the examinations in any order, but Intermediate and Advanced Certifications will only be awarded after required prerequisites have been met.
