The M_o_R risk management process complements the ones described in the ISO 31000 which comprises of five key activities.
Communication and consultation
Establishing context
Risk assessment
Risk treatment and
Monitoring and review

ISO 31000 also describes eleven explicit principles to guide risk management practice(s) in the organizations.
Risk management creates and protects value
Risk management is an integral part of organizational processes
Risk management is part of decision making
Risk management explicitly addresses uncertainty
Risk management is systematic, structured and timely
Risk management is based on the best available information
Risk management is tailored
Risk management takes human and cultural factors into account
Risk management is transparent and inclusive
Risk management is dynamic, iterative and responsive to change
Risk management facilitates continual improvement and enhancement of the Organization

The five attributes of enhanced risk management listed in ISO 31000 are:
Continual improvement
Full accountability for risks
Application of risk management in all decision making
Continual communications
Full integration in the organization’s governance structure

M_o_R® brings all these together along with its unique Approach, Techniques, Health Check, Maturity Model, Specialism and Perspectives to apply the framework and therefore adherence to the best practices defined in the 31000 standard. Owned by AXELOS, M_o_R® is designed to integrate well with other relevant standards and popular methodologies such as PRINCE2®, PMBoK®, MSP®, MoP®, PgMP®, PfMP®, ITIL®, P3O®, MoV®, COBIT® etc.

Purpose of the Foundation Qualification

The purpose of the Foundation qualification is to confirm that a candidate has sufficient knowledge and understanding to contribute to the identification, assessment and control of risks across any organizational perspective. Their understanding will include the four elements of the M_o_R framework and how these support corporate governance. The Foundation qualification is also a pre-requisite for the Practitioner qualification.

Target Audience

M_o_R Foundation is suitable for any organization or individual seeing the need for guidance on a controlled approach to identification, assessment and control risk at strategic, programme, project and operational perspectives. The Foundation qualification is aimed at:
Business Change Managers
Programme and Project Managers
Risk Managers
Business and Programme and Project Support staff and managers
Operational staff and managers
Staff and Managers from other disciplines, particularly those responsible for establishing standards and/or integrating them with MoP portfolio management, MSP programme management and PRINCE2 project management.

Purpose of the Practitioner Qualification

The purpose of the Practitioner qualification is to confirm whether the candidate has achieved sufficient understanding of how to apply and tailor M_o_R in a scenario situation. A successful Practitioner candidate should, with suitable direction, be able to start applying an M_o_R approach to any organizational perspective but may not be sufficiently skilled to do this appropriately for all situations. Their individual risk management expertise, complexity of the organizational context and the support provided for the use of M_o_R in their work environment will all be factors that impact what the Practitioner can achieve.
